| "Neek-sook-oowa" - The title of this piece means, "my friend" in the Blackfeet language. The dress was borrowed from my friend, Linda Nelson, who prepared this ceremonial dress according to ancient tradition. She dyed the material in a large cast iron kettle over an open fire and sorted through 4000 cowery shells before finding 1000 that would be suitable for the dresses embellishment. Her Native American name is now "Star Woman". I am proud to call her "my friend". | |
